Prayer...
From song choice to rehearsal and worship time, we begin every DFC Orchestra gathering with prayer. It has been said that music is given that we may pray without words. We believe that prayer unifies us and brings us closer to our solitary purpose of humbling ourselves as instruments to inspire others to praise and worship our God above.
Humility and Unity...
Our approach to music is one of humility and unity. The DFC Orchestra believes that while we have a human responsibility to practice, improve, and refine our gifts, our musical abilities are in fact just that - gifts. We believe that the musician is a steward of his or her talent, and therefore should not glory in his or her own abilities. We are not looking seeking "stars". What we are seeking are capable musicians who are aware of their gifts, and feel the need to use them to serve their local community. We seek to be unified in being a part of our local church and are grateful to all who play a part in the mechanics of the music ministy. From our sound techs to the media department and deacons and deaconesses who assist in setup and tear downs, we are all part of the family of believers unified in service our local Uptown and Downtown Dallas communities.
Purpose...
While we may prepare music and play on various occassions, our primary goal is to provide music for the worship services at Dallas First Church. Our praise and music times are a time for corporate praise, where we want every person in the service to be inspired to join in singing praises and songs of thanksgiving to our God. We are not here to draw attention to ourselves, but rather to serve the local church and community with what gifts we have been given. Though there may be occassions where the music will be the focus, we believe our role in the worship service is to help set the tone and spirit to receive the spoken word, and will practice and aim to achieve this through dedication and humble service.
