Frequently Asked Questions

Dallas Orchestra

General Questions...

• What costs are associated with joining the DFC Orchestra? None. The DFC Orchestra is part of Dallas First Church's ministries. Of course, as any musician knows, there are inevitable costs associated with each instrument, such as strings, picks, etc. While the musician, as usual, takes care of their own instrument, the church does not charge any type of fees, etc., for joining our music program, whether member, visitor, or community member.

• Can only members of the Dallas First Church of Seventh-Day Adventists join? No. The Dallas First Church Orchestra is open to musicians who want to join in our mission of providing quality sacred music. Please see our "Who Can Join" page for more specific information.

• What level of musician can join? Beginners to Advanced. We do ask that musicians be able to competently play their instruments, meaning, be able to play the associated notes on tones in-tune (on-pitch) in order to play. Please see our "About the Music" page for more information about the music, as well as sample copies of arrangements.

• Can kids join the DFC Orchestra? Of course! If your child is a competent player, we would love to have them join us! Please note: The DFC Orchestra is not a baby-sitting service or child-care option. We ask that parents who want their children to participate in the Orchestra be at the practice during the entire rehearsal. We simply cannot be caretakers.

• Do you use drums or "modern" instruments in your music? Most definitely. We believe all instruments are capapble of being used in the service of sacred music. However, what percussion we use is simply one of many instruments we like to involve in the music. From electric bass to acoustic guitar, stage piano, and violins, we believe in coming together to unify our musical voices in praise. The overall tone and style we choose to employ is one of sacred music, ranging from joyous and high praise to soft and contemplative and will use our instruments to produce the overall spirit of humility and praise in worship through our arrangements.

• What is the dress code? For our rehearsals, we allow musicians to be relaxed and comfortable, yet modest. Please remember that all rehearsals are on the platform of a house of worship, so we ask that you use modesty in dressing comfortably. Please choose clothing that is appropriate to the venue and not too revealing. For services, the general dress code tends to be appropriate to the service.

Please feel free to contact us with any other questions, and we look forward to worshipping together!
